Information Collection Methods

Substance Use Data

  • Substance Name, CASRN, Substance Family, Listing Status, First Listing Edition, First Listing Year, and Last Profile Update are extracted from the RoC profiles.
  • The NTP Profile and NTP Supporting Documents (Monograph, Background) are found at RoC profiles or RoC Completed Scientific Reviews.
  • Options for Level of Evidence (Human) (sufficient, limited/supporting, or inadequate) and Level of Evidence (Animal) (sufficient or not sufficient) were established by the project team and are determined for each substance based on information available in the RoC profiles.
  • Substance use information is obtained from three sources: IARC (as presented in Cogliano), EPA's CPCat, and the RoC profiles.
    • Substance Types are broad substance categories from Cogliano et al. 2011
    • Substance Use (Primary) (CPCat, EPA ACToR) are primary substance uses obtained from CPCat where the source is ACToR UseDB.
    • Substance Use (All) (CPCat, EPA ACToR) are all substance uses obtained from CPCat where the sources include ACToR UseDB and ACToR Data Sets and Lists.
    • Substance Use Restrictions (CPCat, EPA ACToR) are restrictions as indicated in CPCat (source is ACToR).
    • Primary Substance Use (RoC Profile) is information compiled from RoC profiles and includes information on current and former uses.
    • Substance Use Restrictions (RoC Profile) is information compiled from RoC profiles and includes information on bans and other restrictions.

Animal Data

  • For each substance, information on System, Organ or Tissue, Species, Sex, and Route is extracted from the RoC profile.
    • Drop-down lists of System and Organ or Tissue have been created for human and animal spreadsheets to help ensure consistency between the two worksheets.

Human Data

  • For each substance, information on System, Organ or Tissue, Cancer Type, and Cancer Site Evidence is extracted from the RoC profile.
    • Drop-down lists of System and Organ or Tissue have been created for human and animal spreadsheets to help ensure consistency between the two worksheets.
